Greetings!

During the month of February we recognize a holiday that celebrates love between friends, family and that truly special someone else. The symbolic representation of love is the iconic image that we recognize as a heart, and while not exactly an anatomically correct rendering, the fact that this emotion is so tightly linked to the center of our life blood, proves it a good choice. There is probably no one who has not had a loved one affected by heart related problems, if not their own.

Not surprisingly, the month of February, which is so known for Valentine's Day, also corresponds with American Heart Month. Every president since 1963 has declared it as such, with the support of Congress. If you do an internet search for American Heart Month, a whole host of links to various organizations, publications and other web sites that support the initiative, will be part of the search returns. Many of the search results contain links to great treatment and preventative health recommendations, including those related to diet, exercise and alternatives to standard treatments and procedures.

The other big holiday associated with the month of February is President's Day. Recent media reports have carried the news of former President Clinton requiring heart related surgery as a result of chest pains attributed to arterial blockages. Several stents were inserted into the arteries which were identified as having blockages.

Though the former president has been cited as being in generally good health and being someone with a good, regular exercise regimen, he was still prone to heart related problems.
